Guys of All Saints (G.A.S.) Meeting was held on August 1, 2009. Pastor Don gave the blessing for breakfast. Mac MacCann offered a devotional that originated from Pastor’s sermon from last week about the loaves and fishes, and how provision is made by God when you are willing to seek and accept. Pastor also gave us an update on Mark and his progress after surgery with our prayers for his ongoing recovery.
After breakfast G.A.S. worked on lights in the sanctuary and pulled shrubs out of the roadway lawn that had been blocking our service sign. Many hands made the work lighter.
G.A.S. will meet again on October 3 after taking off September 5 (which falls on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend).
Looking forward in our calendar, GAS has been requested to help with cooking for the church picnic in September, set-up for the Fall Festival in October, and pancakes for “Breakfast with the Saints” in December. You’ll hear more about these events in the coming month.

the March G.A.S. meeting was held in the ASLC Fellowship Hall on March 7 beginning with devotional brought by Phil Graham from the book of Mark 8:31-38 which led to a discussion of “Take Up Your cross” and it’s relation to our daily lives. This spirited discussion lasted through the breakfast and served as an encouragement for us to be mindful in our daily service to God.
Hal Shope brought announcement of the upcoming Teen Corps training program for disaster recovery. The program will be held April 18 & 25.
Al Kates proposed a Fish Fry for Saturday, April 4 and asked for the G.A.S. group’s held in staffing the event as a substitute for the April meeting. (The Fish Fry has since been postponed to later in the year.)
Phil Graham closed the meeting with prayer.

The Guys of All Saints met on June 7, 2008 in the ASLC Fellowship Hall. 9 in attendance.
Hilton Austin brought the devotional centered on the book of Matthew before breakfast.
The devotional led to a discussion of defining service opportunities locally for outreach. Possible ideas to be reviewed were 1) having a central committee or clearinghouse to organize requests that come to ASLC, 2) preparing an ongoing meeting date for performing service tasks (possibly after the monthly G.A.S. meeting, and 3) preparing “teams” of workers that can do outreach service from a gathered list, but on a flexible schedule. This will be revisited at the August meeting.
A brief discussion was held about the Fall Men’s Retreat. A decision to hold a Retreat with Lennie Hysong’s group will need to be made soon, and may not be able to wait until the August meeting for consideration. Tony Bush will include this notice in the G.A.S. write-up for the bulletin.
G.A.S. will provide the grilling expertise for the June 15th Church Picnic.
Next meeting will Saturday, August 2 at 8am in the Fellowship Hall. (We will not meet over the July 4th holiday weekend).

Guys of All Saints met on March 1, 2008 in the ASLC Fellowship Hall. 16 in attendance.
Hans Friedrichsen brought the devotional before breakfast.
Al Kates presided over the “business” part of the meeting requesting help for the upcoming Easter Breakfast on March 23. Nine casseroles will be needed for the morning. Also, discussed were the “Neighborhood Ministry” component of the Wednesday Night GAS group to be assembled, the Fall Retreat proposal (John Holdrich will report at the April meeting), and the scheduled date for the Fall Fish Fry on September 6th to coincide with the Bluegrass Festival.
Hans also reported that the neighboring St. Stephen’s Fish Fry (served weekly during Lent) is also pricing at $7 per plate.
Bob Johnson asked about mailing of the “2 for one” or “half-price” mailers for the fish fry and the cost of the mailings compared to the income derived from the fish fry. Al mentioned that the cost of the mailing came from the Evangelism budget to reach new visitors.
Mac McCann distributed the work list for the Spring Cleanup (great job guys!). Prayer requests were made for Sam and Phil, for Dennis and Carol Trittin, the Women’s group traveling for their Retreat, for Eleanor Montovanni in her time of grieving, and for Kristin Kropa taken ill while studying overseas as well as Jeannette’s safe travel to tend to her in London and for all the Kropas who are anxious to hear about Kristin’s recovery.

Before breakfast, Jack Dress brought the devotional. During the breakfast, Mac McCann discussed the small sign message ministry. The signs, and the playgroup sign that had been out front for all of 2007, had been declared as in the right-of-way by the county and removed. Mac asked that the post from leftover “election” signs could be dontated to help keep the message ministry going at lower cost which currently is around $100 per month.
Pastor Ed brought a message about the movie “Groundhog Day” as a parable of renewal in baptism; and also a SuperBowl themed message of the team (the congregation) being a vessel for service more than the player (the individual). A draft of the Mission Teams of the ASLC Strategic Plan was presented.
John Holdrich presented a preliminary idea on the proposed Fall Retreat with Lennie Hysong’s church group. Expected cost will $130 per person. Proposed dates are October 3-5 with a firm commitment needed by April.
Service projects upcoming are:
Feb 22-24 & May TBA: Mission trip to Gulf Coast. Se Al Kates for more info.
March 1: ASLC work day- 9:30am, bring implements of correction for Spring cleanup
March 2: Hunger Walk- 2pm, 5K walk beginning from Turner Field
May 1: Join Hands Day, working with Thrivent supported groups on the county children’s shelter
Also, the Shrove Tuesday dinner will be held at 5:30pm. There will be no WNL, instead there will be the Ash Wednesday devotional at 7pm.
